Native Austinite Tameca Jones has been a staple of the local music scene for going on 10 years.  Coming off of an incredibly successful 2015, which included the release of her original single, “Hot and Bothered,” and her selection as a grant recipient by local music non-profit Black Fret, this rare talent continues to astound crowds with her powerful stage presence and exceptional vocal performances.

On a recent winter night, Tameca performed for a lucky group of local music fans at The Continental Club—an Austin landmark that somehow still feels like a secret.  The capacity crowd was aching for some red hot jams after waiting in a cold line that seemingly stretched clear down South Congress Ave.  These stalwart patrons were indeed rewarded for their tribulation, as Tameca and her band quickly got to work giving folks exactly what they came for—some of the grooviest, best live music Austin has to offer these days.

Tameca Jones is quite at home in the fabled venue, having previously held a Thursday night residency upstairs in the even more intimate Continental Gallery.  Sidenote: if you haven’t yet seen Ephraim Owens play a show upstairs in the gallery, you should do so at your very next opportunity—even better if you can see him with Black Red Black, which features Red Young on the home-field Hammond organ and Brennan Temple on drums.

This particular evening Tameca was in the main room, adorned in a shirt bearing the words “Zero Fucks Given.”  For the entirety of her lengthy set she and her five-piece band laid down sizzling tunes, both covers and originals, that kept the insatiable audience energized and gyrating right up to the last note.  Tameca has an infectious personality that lends to a commanding stage presence, and when combined with her powerful and dynamic voice, she proved once again that she is one of Austin’s homegrown treasures and should not be missed.

You can catch Tameca Jones on Saturday, February 13 at Stubb’s (tickets) where she will be releasing her new EP, Naked.
